Last weekend RUbug festival for urban art came to an end. From 20 to 29 May, Westerholt Colliery became a centre of urban art and more than 60 artists from the fields of street art, graffiti, installation and performance, as well as painting and graphics, showed their work. The artworks were all created on the colliery site itself and are therefore unique pieces with a strong relation to the spot. Some of the artists worked with materials they found on the site.
Too bad it’s already over! For me it was like being in a fairytale land and a total sensory overload; I just couldn’t get enough of it. What will become of all these crazy rooms now? The Neon Room where Adnan Kassim, who escaped the Lebanon war, tells his life story? Where will the thousands of origami birds go when winter comes? Where does the last door lead and will Pac-Man escape the ghosts? In any case, Saint Barbara, patron saint of all miners, guards the now once again abandoned facilities.

Hallo und guten Morgen,
von der RUBug habe ich leider erst erfahren, als sie schon rum war. Das hat mich sehr geärgert. Die IBUGs in Sachsen habe ich mittlerweile alle besucht, das sind Traumorte für Graffiti Fotografen. Die alten Fabriken und Bahnwerke kann man ja gut immer noch besuchen….
Ich habe die Veranstalter der RUBug mal angeschrieben, sie haben sich nicht gemeldet. Ich würde mir die Kunstwerke gerne noch anschauen.
Das Gelände selbst kenne ich von 2 Besuchen in der Vergangenheit ( Urbex-Kram), aber ich fürchte dort kann man aufgrund der Bauarbeiten so nicht mehr hin 😉

Tja, an mir ist das auch beinahe vorbeigerauscht! Ganz ähnlich wie Dir, geht es mir mit der IBUG; unerreichbar für mich 😭 Ich denke, das Orgateam der IBUG hat auch hier mitgemischt. Und wie ich vor Ort hörte, denkt man über eine Neuauflage zumindest nach. Vielleicht kommst Du dann dazu. Und wenn ich es frühzeitig erfahren sollte, kommt auch ein Marker auf dem Blog. 😉
