Already last year, Essen’s former newspaper distrct between Bert-Brecht-, Sachsen- and Friedrichstraße was flattened. Newspaper industry has fundamentally changed and what has begun 1948 is history now. The old district has moved to a modern publishing house and the old buildings were demolished, as well as the mural „Chronik des Ruhrgebiets“ designed by Miroslav Lazović, which once was the face of WAZ, one of the leading commercial newspapers from Essen.

My walk today brought me along the vacant lot of the old newspaper district and I had to note that even if the newspaper people have moved away, the critical mind is still there.
