Notes from a Berlin friend

Passers of Walter Benjamin Platz in Berlin Charlottenburg currently enjoy a spectacular installation made by QUINTESSENZ. It is titled “COLORMAZE” and shows a complete color circle. They have installed and moved 8,5 tons of wood. Over 10,000 screws turned in and several liters of white lacquer used for priming. The installation is built as a labyrinth by using colored modules, allowing visitors to travel through the spectrum of colours.

Space is the fundamental inspiration for the art collective. Their work not only uses shapes and patterns found in architecture, it interferes with its environment, changing the spectators perception (of space). QUINTESSENZ use old factory buildings as their canvases, with their murals covering entire facades. In every medium they use, both in public spaces and galleries, their abstract work shares one thing in common: their art makes/creates space for its color. For them, color is more than form. It is the content itself. [1] The installation is up for 4 weeks. Go for a walk and don’t miss it. And – by the way – according to a post at their Instagram account, the umbrellas are not part of their installation.
