To mark the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus, Museum Folkwang is offering a look at the Expressionist beginnings of the school with an exhibition of works by Lyonel Feininger. Wandering through the exhibition and looking through a window, I became aware of a facade painting at a house at the opposite side of the museum.
New murals are rare in Essen. The city isn’t that big and usually I learn by social media or the press about new paintings in my hometown. To find one by chance has never ocurred so far. I didn’t find a signature, however, the style was familiar to me. A request at Zinnober, agency for the desin of facades, since 2007 in Essen, brought clarification. The mural was painted by GABOR DOLEVICZENYI and is entitled „Kreislauf des Lebens“ („Circle of Life“). The painting is a comissioned work and is meant to remind people to put life in the center of attention again.
