The Grand Finale of 1st Berlin Mural Festival was announced to be celebrated with a big party. The organizers called it an exclusive Aftershow-Bang, to be located in an abandoned factory. The location was top secret and users of the Berlin Mural app, released close to the festival’s end, could win tickets for the party.
That is why I think it was a small, exclusive circle of partying guests; artists, organizers, fans, friends and (who knows how many) winners. It is beyond my knowledge whether you could buy regular tickets for the party and what the price was. My guess regarding the premises, was Mecklenburgische Straße 32, the former Reemtsma cigarette factory, which was named in the published map with locations of the walls. The line-up was spectacular and promised a number of highlights. DR MOLROK, MONSTA, INNERFIELDS, MÜCKE, OSTAP, to name but a few. The walk of my 4th day on the tracks of 1st Berlin Mural Festival was meant to check that. I was not sure if the premesis were open to the public, but a closer look showed, there was no problem to enter. With a number of 1.300 employees the old cigarette factory in Schmargendorf produced „Peter Stuyvesant“ and „West“ on a complex covering 75.000 square-meters. Space enough for the artists to let off steam there. In 18 months the excavators are supposed to roll and a large district for offices, workshops and start-up companies should arise. Time enough to play until Sleeping Beauty sleep will be over.
