Telmo Pieper aka TELMO (1989) and Miel Krutzmann aka MIEL (1984) are an artist duo based in Rotterdam (NL). Both graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy, where they met (2006) and made friends. 2012 they started their career as creative duo and work together creating concepts and designs. They are well known for monumental scaled murals of complex creatures and fantastic scenarios on building façades. In Dortmund they just have finished their third wall for 44309 STREET// ART GALLERY at Feldstraße corner to Friedrich Kohn Str., accompanying their solo show „THE DIFFERENCE IN SIMILARITY“. At first sight not very exciting with its motif and muted colours, but WOW, the closer look left me confused and curious; what the hell is meant with this isolated arm, ghostly and spooky?! I decided to find out more in the exhibition. Executed mostly as oil paintings, the show has individual pieces as well as community works and left me helpless again. One is obliged to change the viewing point all the time. What is real and true? Each painting has several levels of action, keeps the viewer in tension and see subjects with a different eye. By cutting away a top layer, another comes forward to complete the image with a surprising new point of view, connecting set pieces in a new and surprising way.
The exhibition is on show until 5.5.2018.
