Central European Summer is not a pleasure for the participants of 40° Urban Art Festival. Autumn is early this year. In two hours the half-of-time-party is going to start and all the day heavy rain and winds gusting through the streets of Essen. I suppose Düsseldorf not to have better conditions for an outdoor party. What a pity!
The weather conditions during my last visit in Düsseldorf on Friday have not been better. Added to this, some pieces, sprayed at movable walls covered with black plastic sheets, were wilfully destroyed during the night before. There’s a sucker born every minute! Repairs had begun immediately; some artists were on site to create something new. Work at the new mural for TRANSURBAN at Kölner Landstraße 431 was going ahead. Charles Bhebe, artist based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, who took part of Biennale-Venedig 2017, calls his paintings ‘’urban narratives’’. The mural is going to show characters he had observed during his stay in Holthausen. And last but not least: KALLE has painted one more of the little substations of the local municipal transport authorities with one of his typical characters.
