I would like to draw your attention to the exhibition „NOWAY“ of Ben Mathis & MaJo Brothers in Düsseldorf, Ludenberger Straße 31. Be aware of their opening times: Mondays & Wednesdays 11 – 13 am and Saturdays 1 – 3 pm. The show is on display until 18.3.2017.
Ben Mathis and Marc & Joe Hennig aka MaJo Brothers have been working together successfully for many years in Düsseldorf but also far beyond the city limits for the greater region. We all have to deal with the signs forest in public space and often fail to look very closely. Traffic sigs are „Icons of sanction“; may be that is why they are like magnets for street artists and their stickers. The exhibition focuses them, each artist in his own handwriting. Ben Mathis has recreated traffic signs in wood and varnished the mandatory or prohibitory signs with multilayer colour. At last the colour was partially peeled and scratched to produce the result shown. Joe Hennig takes the signs from public space and rearranges them to new meanings. With plain forms and reduced colours he forms clear messages. Marc Hennig’s material are original metal signs. He slices, breaks, bends and rearranges them to a new design. At everything he does, the yellow ape has a finger in the pie.
