Metamorphose of a former women’s prison
The 17 goals of sustainable development of the United Nations have been enforced in January 2016. Urban art campaign „Weltbaustellen – Die Welt von morgen wächst vor Ort“ deals with those goals. 17 goals – 17 murals in North Rhine Westfalia. 8 different cities have got new designed facades in 2016; 9 murals are still to come in 2017. In Mülhem/Ruhr artist duo Hardy Bock (DEU) and Adam Masava (KEN) have finished a mural at the facade of the former women’s prison at Gerichtsstraße 11 in Mülheim/Ruhr.
Is this „THE WORLD WE WANT?“ That is the central question, this mural deals with. The bus with destination „FUTURE“ is on its way but where to? It passes sheet metal huts in front of the backdrop of high polished high-rise buildings of a megacity. Nature is denatured; a giraffe seems to settle in a flat and tree trunks are smokestacks. More distantly nature seems to be OK, but industry gets closer.
