Sometimes I wake up in the morning and have an image of french fries and Currywurst in front of my eyes; I almost can smell and taste it. Then it’s time to take a trip to Dortmund and pay a visit to „Pommes Rot Weiss“ near Borsigplatz. This takeaway is located on historic ground. The former pub „Wildschütz“ was the place of the founding of iconic soccer club „Borussia Dortmund 09“. Nowadays it is lovingly decked with BVB09 memorabilia, like team fotos and flags, but the highlight apart „Currywurst rot/weiss“ is the permanently reserved table placed on a pedestral, as if the players are been expected to pop in at any time.
But in these wet days nothing else remains to do is hope for better conditions; and while waiting continuing of rememberance in last years highlights. A pity!
In the heat of june there were children playing in the city at a fountain near main staion. They tried to cool down and survive their mothers shopping trip. I hope this years summer will be similar to the last. Some time later in June, as always on the 3rd weekend in June, there was „Traumzeitfestival“ in Duisburg. As always there was something for everyone. For me the absolute highlight among others like Talisco, Calexico, Kensington, Bilderbuch, The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble and Benjamin Clementine, was „Käpt’n Peng und die Tentakel von Delphi“. Up to that moment I had no idea that Rap could be a revelation. This in combination with the light instllations of Joanathan Park was an experience of a special kind.
Followed soon by a spectacular concert of Santana in July. I know it was strictly forbidden to take pictures of these concert events, but it is so hard to resist with so many people around who do even more with their smartphones.
Later in October Benedict Cumberbatch, who probably is best known for his Sherlock Holmes film part, played Hamlet in The Barbican. As it was impossible to get tickets for the show, I was happy enough to get one of the rare tickets for a live broadcast to a cinema; a great way of making the play accessible. An electrifying evening for all of those who could participate.
